Last weekend the Air Training Corps’ (ATC’s) Senior Rugby and Netball competitions reached their conclusion for 2017 at RAFC Cranwell.  A cold but occasionally sunny day greeted teams from all six Regions for a day of very closely fought matches.

LASER lost out narrowly in the rugby final after a very competitive match against Central and East Region. On the netball court the competition was also closely fought, with LASER securing victory in the final against South West Region. Their team captain was Cadet Warrant Officer Jessica El-Homssi from 14F (Northolt) Squadron.  At 19 years of age this was her last National level event before she ages-out next year so was very pleased with the result.  She said “I was very impressed by the team’s performance.  We had two very tight games but the team pulled-together and all came good in the end.”

Sporting success

The Region’s Team Manager was Flt Lt Jo Blackwell RAFAC who said “I am particularly pleased with the result.  The cadets worked really hard and all stepped-up to the plate when necessary.  We had one nail biting game but the cadets’ flexibility was good and they were able to change positions when necessary”.

Alex Maddison is the ATC’s National Sport Officer at HQ Air Cadets.  He said “it has been a good day of competition with some real skill on show.  A great way to finish off 2017’s competitions”.

The best performing cadets on the day were selected to represent the ATC in representative matches to played early in 2018.
